Saint Michael’s College’s (http://www.smcvt.edu/) Department of Mathematics and Statistics invites applications for a full-time 3-year term either as a Visiting Assistant Professor or as an Instructor beginning fall 2019. There is potential for conversion to tenure-track (for Assistant Professor) or renewal (for Instructor) during or at the end of the term. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to exciting and growing programs in Statistics, Mathematics, and Data Science, and support a wide range of partner disciplines through interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly a new institutional initiative in the Health Sciences.

Job Description:
Candidates must be committed to excellence in teaching, including openness to opportunities for interdisciplinary collaborations and undergraduate research. We seek expertise in the areas of statistics, data science, biomathematics, actuarial science, or mathematics education to support our current and newly developed programs, but candidates with other specialties are also urged to apply. Normal responsibilities for a Visiting Assistant Professor include teaching 6 courses per year with advising and institutional service with institutional supports available for research initiatives, whereas those for an instructor include teaching 7 courses per year and some departmental service. Requirements:
• PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Biomathematics, Mathematics Education, or closely related field strongly preferred. Candidates with Master’s degrees and otherwise strong qualifications may be considered (particularly those with experience preparing preservice teachers, or meeting the ASA/MAA criteria for teaching introductory statistics)
• Experience supporting an inclusive and diverse student body with a variety of learning differences.
• Skilled in teaching mathematics and/or statistics in a liberal arts setting and have had success in teaching a variety of undergraduate mathematics and statistics courses, including calculus and elementary statistics.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to support a variety of perspectives as well as enhance the activities of the Department.
