Hi all,

At the Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University of Helsinki, we are recruiting a Professor or Assistant/Associate Professor of Statistics with research expertise in computational statistics and related mathematical theory.

Our Statistics Professors have very active joint research programmes with ecological and environmental sciences (Jarno Vanhatalo), human genetics (Matti Pirinen) and public health (Sangita Kulathinal), which provides ample collaboration opportunities for an expert in computational statistics. Additionally, Statistics Professors Jukka Corander (from University of Oslo) and Jukka Jokinen (from THL) work part of their time at our Department. Our Lecturers provide further expertise in time-series (Leena Kalliovirta), non-parametric and robust methods (Jyrki Möttönen) and mathematical statistics (Petteri Piiroinen).

Our Department also hosts two Academy of Finland’s Centers of Excellence that are of potential interest for computational statistics:
* Inverse modelling and imaging (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/centre-of-excellence-of-inverse-modelling-and-imaging)
* Randomness and structures (https://www.helsinki.fi/en/projects/first)

Our department is also in the same faculty and building with the Department of Computer Science, which provides great opportunities to collaborate also with leading ML researchers in Finland.

The official call for applications (deadline 16.2.2023)
