Position: TAMIDS Postdoctoral Fellow

Duties and Responsibilities: This position is funded by a joint initiative between the Department of Statistics, the Department of Nutrition and Food Science, and the Texas A&M Institute of Data Science (TAMIDS). The postdoctoral fellow will work under the multidisciplinary supervision of Drs. Raymond Carroll, Irina Gaynanova and Yang Ni in the Department of Statistics and Dr. Robert Chapkin in the Department of Nutrition and Food Science. The primary responsibility of the postdoc is to develop novel statistical methodology in comparative integrative omics. The research focus will address statistical issues in analyzing microbiome data, single-cell RNA-seq data, modeling host heterogeneity, integrating data from multiple sources, and identifying key functionalities in host and microbial community-wide networks. In addition, the postdoctoral fellow will engage with the broader mission of TAMIDS for up to one day per week on average. The TAMIDS duties are expected to be flexible. Examples of such engagements include: consulting or collaborating with researchers or graduate students in their area to help integrate Data Science into their projects, advising graduate student interdisciplinary Data Science team projects, or creating and teaching a short course related to their research. The position can be renewed for a second year, subject to satisfactory progress.

Position Qualifications: The candidate should be a highly motivated individual with a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, machine learning or a related quantitative field. The candidate should be familiar with one or more of the following fields: microbiome data analysis, scRNA-seq, graphical models, data integration, high-dimensional statistics, and Bayesian hierarchical/mixture models. Programming skills in R or MATLAB and preferably one lower level computer language such as C++ are required. The candidate should also have good communication and writing skills.
