Candidate Statement 2023
I am a PhD candidate in Statistics at Bocconi University, working with Antonio Lijoi and Igor Prünster, and starting in 2024 I will join the department of Statistical Science at Duke University as an Assistant Professor. My research interests lie broadly in the fields of Bayesian nonparametrics and theory of Bayesian computations.

My PhD experience has been fulfilling and rewarding, mostly thanks to the nice environment of my program: I had the privilege to share my PhD years with supportive colleagues and with senior advisors that promoted young researchers. I am well aware that not everyone has such a positive experience and I have been very privileged, thus I want to give back to the junior Bayesian community. Furthermore, throughout my research experience, as well as my education and personal life, I became increasingly aware that academics and researchers have a huge social responsibility and can help to improve our society in several dimension. Though those are big challenges, I believe institutions like ISBA and j-ISBA can play an important role towards tackling them.

As a program chair, if elected, I would work to provide a diverse pool of events, in order to allow a broader audience to participate and interact. Indeed, even if fortunately in-person conferences returned to be the standard, I believe that some of the online events should survive: as an example, the full-online ISBA meeting, which took place in 2021, saw an unprecedented number of participants from under-represented countries. Moreover, with the similar purpose of increasing the visibility of early-career researchers, I would be a supporter of dedicated awards, like the Blackwell-Rosenbluth ones.

Finally, I strongly believe in initiatives like the professional development workshop, to be held this September. Indeed, the PhD years and the subsequent job market can be very stressful and I think j-ISBA can provide a valuable support.
