Bayesian Computation Chair-Elect
Candidate Statement 2023
My main research interest is in the development of new Bayesian methods for fitting complex stochastic models to data. However, in my career, I have also worked on many applied problems. I have found the Bayesian approach to conducting inference to be so much more convenient. This would not be so without the development of Bayesian computational methods and their software implementation. To advance science, it is critical that we borrow strength from everyone interested in Bayesian computation, from methodology and theory to application and software.

As Chair-Elect I would aim to emphasise the importance of all aspects of Bayesian computation, acknowledging increased contributions outside of traditional statistics such as machine learning. I also believe it is important to provide opportunities for early career researchers, and to continue to address diversity issues such as gender and geography.

I believe my previous experience as the Chair of the Bayesian Section of the Statistical Society of Australia prepares me well to make a positive contribution to the Bayes Comp Section team as the Chair-Elect. The legacy of my role was the creation of a leadership team that facilitated more activities and benefits for the section members.
