BNP Chair-Elect
Candidate Statement 2023
I am full professor in statistics at Politecnico di Milano, Italy. My research field has always been Bayesian nonparametrics, focusing mainly on its modelling and computational aspects; since I work in a technical university, I have been moving my curiosity from theory to more applied areas. My key research interests are mixture models for density estimation and
clustering, random probability measures and repulsive point processes, and Bayesian models for spatial data. From the point of view of applications, my recent work concerns healthcare management (e.g., recurrent blood donations), gender inequalities and air pollution.

I am very proud to teach a course in Bayesian statistics at my university; it has been the only course about the Bayesian approach for a long time. I have been able (and I hope to continue to do in the future) to promote Bayesian thinking and statistics among younger generations of engineers, and to give them some basics of BNP.

I have been part of the BNP community for a long time. I have served in the BNP Section of ISBA as Program Chair (2020-2021), Treasurer (2014-2015), in the ISBA Board (2015-2017), in a few committees, and as associate editor of Bayesian Analysis.

If elected, I will work to promote the growth and visibility of the community even further and to ensure well-balanced programs where all the aspects of the field receive adequate representation. I want to make young researchers, particularly women and traditionally
underrepresented minorities, feel our section as their scientific home. It is very important to me to be part of the BNP community around the world.

If elected, I would be honored to serve as Chair-Elect of the BNP Section of ISBA.
