Position Being Sought 2023
j-ISBA Program Chair
Candidate Statement 2023
Hi there! I am currently a postdoc at Barcelona School of Economics - Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona, Spain).
I am very honoured and excited to be nominated for the j-ISBA section Program Chair! The ISBA community and the junior section feel like privileged environments to me, and I would like to give back and contribute to its great achievements.

If I am elected, my priorities as a Program Chair would be:

- Continuing to promote a friendly and supportive environment for early-career researchers. To me, this means ensuring equity and diversity in the organisation of events, regarding the representation of topics, geographical areas, and minorities. Moreover, I would aim to broadly communicate about events in a way that makes everyone feel included, and provide financial and administrative support to those who need it.

- Further developing online events of j-ISBA to provide additional opportunities for the community to meet throughout the year and, hopefully, gather a broader audience than in-person meetings. For instance, I would very thrilled to organise the Junior Bayes Beyond the Border webinar as a monthly series of meetings featuring an early-career presenter and a discussant, following the model of the Bayesian Analysis discussion webinar.

- Fostering career-developments programs such as networking sessions and career panels at ISBA events, and mentoring programs, with senior academics, researchers in industry and public organisations, as well as mentorships for undergraduate students. I believe that the initial years of a research career can be very daunting, and that help and advice from peers are essential. I would aim to make j-iSBA play a key role in this regard.

My previous experience as an event organiser within academia includes being a board member of EquiStats, a student-led group that aims to promote equity and diversity in the department of Statistics at the University of Oxford, where I completed my Ph.D. If you want to view past events organised by this group, please check out the webpage https://tylerkf.github.io/equistats/
