EFaB Chair-Elect
Candidate Statement 2023
I am very honoured to be asked to nominate for Chair-Elect of EFaB. I think we have much to offer practitioners in economics, finance and business but the best direction of EFaB should come from its members. I believe our area can gain much from demographic diversity, such as from a better gender balance in workshops. I would aim to encourage growth in the new research directions both within EFaB and to bring in ideas from related fields, while continuing the excellent work of previous chairs to bring together Bayesians to improve EFaB’s profile. I would bring ideas for the group to consider such as; encouraging specialized workshops for junior and senior researchers to come together, and a regular online seminar series.

I am a professor of econometrics and Deputy Head of the School of Economics at the University of Queensland. In research, I have enjoyed working with multivariate time series, dimension reduction, cointegration, state space models, factor models and invariate specification of (predominanty reduced rank) models. I have published in leading statistics and econometrics journals (JASA, Journal of Econometrics, Journal of Applied Econometrics, JBES). I currently serve as an associate editor of Advances in Econometrics Series. I have developed organisational skills from my experience running regular small workshops (e.g., the Rimini Bayesian Workshops), as programme chair of large conferences (e.g., Econometrics Society Australasian Meetings) and have served in many administrative roles (e.g., Deputy Head of School and Head of School).
