Industrial Statistics Treasurer
Candidate Statement 2023
About me:
My research is motivated by how people quantify uncertainty and how they make strategic decisions under uncertainty. I am a Bayesian statistician with 20 years’ experience across industry as well as academia. My statistical research revolves around the mathematical, computational as well as philosophical aspects of statistical inference, in particular, Bayesian inference. Majority of my research is motivated by a real life application. Over the years, I have worked on statistical modelling problems in diverse areas such as Ecology, Engineering, Economics, Market research, Pharmaceuticals, Psychology, Sports science and Security and Crime Science. I started my career as a Statistician working in the Pharmaceutical and Market research corporations.
Methodologically, my research focus includes expert prior elicitation and robustness, classes of prior distributions, utility functions, adversarial risk analysis and Bayesian deep learning.

Why am I standing for the election:
ISBA and especially the Industrial section feels like my research home. I have attended a number of GDRR (Games and Decisions in Risk and Reliability) and BISP (Bayesian Inference for Stochastic Processes) workshops over the years. I have benefited immensely from these and from interacting with colleagues at these, ISBA and other Bayesian meetings. It will be an honour to serve the Industrial section in this small capacity as a Treasurer and be able to give back a little to our community.
