Description
The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences (SDS) at The University of Texas at Austin invites applications for faculty positions starting in Fall 2024, including multiple tenured/tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor positions and Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Instruction (non tenure-track) positions. SDS is the newest and fastest growing department in the College of Natural Sciences. The department is internationally recognized for its excellence in research in statistical methodology and theory, applied statistics, data science, biostatistics, and machine learning. Its faculty have a strong commitment to providing high quality, innovative educational experiences in statistics and data science to undergraduate and graduate students from across the university, in addition to those enrolled in one of SDS degree programs.

The department currently has 25 tenured/tenure track faculty and 8 professional track faculty members. It sits amid one of the most intellectually vibrant universities in the country, with abundant opportunities for interdisciplinary research within the College of Natural Sciences and across the Dell Medical School, the Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences, the Population Research Center, the Machine Learning Laboratory, and many other research entities across the campus. A partnership with the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) provides access to world-class computing resources. While the professional track faculty positions are not eligible for tenure, we hire with the intent that new instructional faculty will become a lasting part of our community. Qualifications
Candidates should have a doctoral degree in statistics, biostatistics, data science, or a related discipline by August 2024

Candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position are evaluated based on their potential for developing an impactful research program and for becoming excellent in teaching, mentoring, and service.

Candidates for a tenured Associate Professor position are expected to have established a strong and independent research program. In addition, a record for excellence in teaching, mentoring, and service is expected.

While not required, candidates for professional track positions with previous teaching experience and/or professional experience as a statistician, biostatistician, or data scientist are preferred.

As part of the application submission process, candidates will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of three individuals who are willing to supply letters of support via Interfolio. For applicants currently in graduate school, at least two letters should be from faculty members at the candidate’s graduate institution. A link to a professional website where published papers, preprints, and software packages are available may be provided on the candidate’s CV.

Review of applications for the tenured/tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor position will begin on November 8, 2023 and continue until the positions are filled.

Applications for the Assistant/Associate/Full Professor position will be reviewed on an ongoing basis, but priority will be given to applications received on or before January 12, 2024.
