The Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a visionary, well-qualified, and highly effective leader to serve as Chair of the Department of Biostatistics & Bioinformatics(B&B)(https://biostat.duke.edu). We seek candidates who appreciate the diversity of academic interests among B&B faculty–from classical Biostatistics to the broad umbrella of Health Data Science; additionally,they should demonstrate dedication to faculty career development and the training of future scholars;skills to secure external research funding in a collaborative research environment; the ability to foster a supportive, collaborative, creative and innovative workplace;and a proven record of scholarship, leadership and management in a diverse and complex environment.

The Biostatistics & Bioinformatics Department has 55 faculty in 3 Divisions:Biostatistics, Translational Biomedical Informatics, and IntegrativeGenomics. The faculty have broad methodological interests, including bioinformatics,biostatistical methods research,clinical trials, comparative effectiveness, predictive modeling, translational research, statistical genetics and genomics, machine learning and high dimensional data, integration and analysis of health record data, computational biology, and more.The Department is also home to the Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Research Design Methods Core of the Duke Clinical & Translational Science Institute, with approximately 20 masters and doctoral level staff biostatisticians.

The Duke University School of Medicine provides a wealth of opportunities for innovative research and is among the top medical schools in the country, perennially ranked among the top 10 in funding from the National Institutes of Health and in the top 10 schools by U. S. News and World Report. The B&B department is located on the Duke University and medical school campus, with faculty providing analytic and methodologic leadership and collaboration with multiple institutes and centers, including the Duke Clinical Research Institute, the Duke Cancer Institute, the Duke Molecular Physiology Institute, Center for Statistical Genetics and Genomics, and others.Strong research and educational collaborations exist with other quantitative departments on Duke’s main campus, including Statistical Science, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, and others.

The department offers four graduate-level degree training programs: Master of Biostatistics,Ph.D. in Biostatistics, Clinical Research Training Program(CRTP),and Master of Management in Clinical Informatics, with current enrollments of 55, 17, 175 and 35, respectively. The Biostatistics Masters Program has tracks in Clinical & Translational Research, Biomedical Data Science, and Mathematical Statistics. The CRTP program is targeted to healthcare professionals and leads to a Master of Health Sciences in Clinical Research degree.
