Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Department of Statistics in the College of Liberal Arts and Science at Iowa State University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of assistant or associate professor specializing in forensic statistics.
Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, graduate student advising, professional and institutional service, developing, leading and sustaining a high-quality and high-impact research program, successfully competing for external funding, and participating in collaborative research with researchers in other disciplines. The successful candidate will have basic and/or collaborative research experience or potential in statistics research related to the forensic sciences.
The position is associated with the Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence, (CSAFE) a federally funded, National Institute of Standards and Technology Center of Excellence. CSAFE has state-of-the-art facilities, outstanding computational resources, and funding to support graduate and undergraduate research assistants, post-doctoral associates, professional travel and other activities. The successful candidate will participate in Center activities and conduct research in statistical areas that support that Center’s mission.

Required Minimum Qualifications:
A PhD or equivalent degree in statistics or a closely related discipline.
Associate Professor: In addition to the above, the candidate must have an outstanding scholarly record that includes publications in highly ranked scientific journals in statistics or related fields consistent with appointment at the associate professor level, as well as, experience teaching statistics at any level.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience that demonstrates the ability to teach statistics classes at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Training in statistical computing, data science, or machine learning.
Experience that demonstrates the potential to secure and sustain external research funding.
Demonstrated experience or strong interest in forensic statistics.
Demonstrated potential to collaborate effectively with researchers and practitioners in the forensics and the legal communities.
Proven ability to work and collaborate with diverse populations of students, faculty, and staff.
Associate Professor: In addition to the above, the candidate’s record should demonstrate success in securing external research funding, experience or strong interest in forensic statistics, an excellent teaching record, as demonstrated by teaching evaluations, and experience in collaborative research with scientists in other disciplines.
Department/Program & College Description:
The doctoral program in Statistics is ranked as one of the top programs in the country and produces about 15 PhD graduates annually. The program currently has about 140 graduate students, 100 undergraduate majors, and 38 faculty.
The Center for Statistics and Applications in Forensic Evidence (CSAFE) is an academic center reporting to the Vice President for Research, and is affiliated with the Department of Statistics. CSAFE specializes in statistical research to advance scientifically sound forensic analysis in the judicial system.
