    The Department of Statistics proposes to appoint a University Lecturer in Statistics to take up this post from 1 April 2011, or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be offered a Tutorial Fellowship by Jesus College, the Kay Fellowship, under arrangements described in the further particulars. The combined University and College salary will be on a scale up to £57,201 per annum, and a College housing allowance of £9,986, responsibility allowance of £1,451, as well as other benefits.

    The successful candidate will have research interests close to the mainstream of modern statistics, will have a PhD, or equivalent degree in Statistics or a related discipline, and a strong, relevant research record published in leading journals as well as the potential to attract appropriate research funding. The appointee will also be expected to have the ability to teach effectively over a wide range of topics in the undergraduate syllabus of the Mathematics and Statistics degrees at Oxford, the MSc programme in Applied Statistics, provide relevant supervision of graduate students, and to carry out relevant duties of a Tutorial Fellow.

  • May 19, 2010 - Bayesian Researcher for Hedge Fund Modeling

    (QUANT Quant Analyst - Junior)

    UBP Asset Management ("UBPAM") is a wealth management firm headquartered in New York. Specializing in Hedge Fund-of-Funds and Customized Accounts, UBPAM provides investment management and advisory services to a wide range of clients.

    Summary: The effectiveness of quantitative analysis when applied to hedge funds has been limited by the fact that the data available are sparse and the opportunity sets in which hedge funds invest are constantly changing making hedge-fund returns difficult to model. UBP is developing an innovative approach to modeling hedge funds in which Bayesian statistics will play an important role. These models would help inform and discipline the investment process at UBP. As a member of the Quantitative Team, work with other members of the Team to provide quantitative/analytical support to the Manager Research & Selection, Portfolio Construction, Asset Allocation and Portfolio Analytics & Investment Risk teams with a focus on Manager Research and Selection. Initial duties will include developing innovate approaches for modeling hedge funds.

    The candidate should have a strong skill set in statistical analysis and experience with a statistical or object-oriented language such as Java, C++ or C#. We have a very strong preference for individuals with experience in applying state-of-the art Bayesian models. The candidate should be self-motivated, have the ability to solve problems creatively, work independently and be able to perform in a fluid, team environment. The candidate should have an intense interest in applying quantitative analysis to solve difficult problems.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Develop hedge fund models to guide hedge fund selection and monitoring.
    Work closely with the Manager Research and Selection Team
    Work with Technology Team to implement quantitative tools and solutions.

    Qualifications:

    Extensive experience in Bayesian statistics.
    Extensive experience with a statistical or object-oriented language such as Java, C++ or C#.
    A highly trained professional who is interested in applying advanced methods to the modeling of financial markets.
    Superior analytical skills and an excellent academic track record with a Ph.D. in a quantitative discipline.

    Job Description

    The Statistics and Epidemiology Unit of RTI International seeks a Senior Research Statistician to support the use of Bayesian statistics in a wide range of clinical research studies and program evaluations in public health and related areas.

    The successful candidate is expected to have strong skills and relevant experience in developing and applying the principles and methods of Bayesian statistics to a broad range of clinical research studies, including the design and analysis of randomized clinical trials and observational studies, longitudinal studies and program evaluations in public health. Expertise in eliciting and incorporating prior information and expert opinion, as well as designing and analyzing adaptive early phase clinical trials would be especially beneficial.

    Responsibilities

    You will apply Bayesian methods to the design and analysis of research studies (both interventional and observational) in public health. The ability to apply Bayesian principles to the design and analysis of program evaluation studies in related areas is also desirable.

    Qualifications

    * PhD or equivalent degree in Statistics, Biostatistics or related field with at least 5 years related experience.
    * Expertise in designing and analyzing Bayesian studies in clinical and public health research, including randomized clinical trials.
    * Excellent writing and communication skills.

    Desired Skills

    * Expertise in adaptive clinical trial designs
    * Expertise in applying Bayesian principles to longitudinal and program evaluation studies.

    Employment Flexibility

    * Though we prefer a full time employment situation, a less that full time schedule can be considered for a highly qualified individual.

    The Department of Statistics, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, announces the opening of one tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level, beginning August 2010 or March 2011. Candidates should have a doctoral degree in Statistics or a related field and exhibit research potential and a commitment to teaching. Appointees will be expected to pursue a vigorous research program and to teach three undergraduate/graduate courses (only two during the first two years).     The equity trading quantitative analytics team is responsible for the research and development for the equities electronic trading products and portfolio analytics. On the execution side, this research covers the execution algorithms, smart order routing, and dark liquidity crossing network. Our portfolio analytics platform includes quantitative diagnostics, risk analysis, optimization and the development of execution strategies. The position will conduct original empirical research in market microstructure in support of the indicated business lines. The successful candidate is also expected to engage in product development, client support and publication in journals related to quantitative finance.

    Requirements:

       Ph.D. in Econometrics, Finance or Statistics
       Extensive knowledge of econometrics
       Completed research in empirical market microstructure
