AVAILABLE POSITION: postdoctoral fellowship in Bayesian case detection-University of Pittsburgh
The RODS Laboratory's CDC Center of Excellence Program invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship in Bayesian case detection. We are located in Pittsburgh, PA, and we are conducting cutting edge research in the development of new Bayesian computational methods to analyze patient data to detect diseases of interest as early as possible and facilitate disease outbreaks detection. The project has at its disposal large sets of patient data from multiple hospitals within a large healthcare system for automated disease detection. An attractive aspect of the research is that it combines the development of new algorithmic methods with the evaluation of those methods by public health epidemiologists who are responsible for detecting disease outbreaks; thus, the research involves a tight loop between theory and practice with the goal of advancing both.
The RODS Laboratory is a dynamic, growing research group that is a leader in biosurveillance research. It has pioneered numerous methods that are now standard in the field.
Candidates should have a foundational knowledge of Bayesian statistics and be able to program in Java. Knowledge of Bayesian networks would be helpful, but is not required. Before starting the position, a doctoral degree is necessary in a relevant field of study, such as computer science, epidemiology, statistics, biomedical informatics, or another quantitative field.
Curriculum vitae and three letters of recommendation are required for application.
The salary and benefits for this position are competitive. The Department of Biomedical Informatics places a strong emphasis on helping Postdoctoral Fellows prepare for a successful career beyond the fellowship.
